Jeannie Bea Simmons
Sunrise: December 22, 1963, | Sunset: May 24, 2025
May 24, 2025, the music turned up in heaven as Jeannie Bea Simmons made her grand entrance, surrounded by the love of her family and the comforting presence of her faith. Born on December 22, 1963, she lived a vibrant, joyful life full of music, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and her family.
She was the heart and soul of her home, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Married to her beloved husband and soulmate, Cleveland Simmons, for over 45 years, the two shared a deep love that stood the test of time. Even when miles apart, they talked on the phone for hours, proving that love truly knows no distance. Their bond was one of those rare, real-life love stories you don't see every day.
She had a passion for music and dancing, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children, Belinda Simmons, Isaac Foreman, Lawanda Simmons (Mark), Christine Bhimsain (Vijay), and Jackee Simmons, grandchildren, DeAndre Simmons, Marvin (Bookie) Harp, Jr., Mariah Gilzean, Marc Gilzean, Takiyah Cockrum, Jakyra Evans, Taniyah Simmons, Travon Ware, Leah Bhimsain, Tanaysha Young, Daniel Cutter, and Monikah Young, and great-grandchildren Namari Gilzean and Na'Shon Simmons-Patterson. Special inclusion of son-in-law Robert Young (Shawanna). Let's be clear: nobody made sweet potato pies like she did. (We're still trying to get the recipe just right, but something tells us she kept a secret ingredient.). Her laugh was unforgettable, and her faith in God was unshakable. She lived with kindness, generosity, and grace, always putting others before herself. She made life brighter.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sons-in-law; her three caring older sisters Cynthia, Debra, and Annette; and her beloved brother, Elmire; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, a sister-in-law, and many treasured friends. She also leaves behind her ever-inspiring Aunt Minnie.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shawanna, who left this world in 2016 to prepare a place for her in heaven. We know Shawanna, along with so many other loved ones, greeted her with open arms, open hearts, and perhaps even a little music.
She was a woman of deep faith who talked to God often and lived out His love daily. She gave generously, forgave easily, and loved without limits.
In her honor, turn up the music, love big, dance often, and never forget: God is good.
We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice in knowing that her spirit lives in every song, every dance, every prayer, and every slice of sweet potato pie.
